Amazing Architecture for March 30, 2009

March 29, 2009

Surfing about the web today I have collected quite a selection of amazing buildings and constructs for your viewing pleasure.

First is a plan for a solar panel covered parking lot. The story on GreenUpgrader (http://greenupgrader.com/6769/envision-solar-covered-parking-lots-with-solar-groves/) proposes planting solar trees to help us with power generation.  I like the idea but it looks to be viable only in certain areas as the structure relies on a single pole which would not be very wind resistant.  I know of an area in Southern California that requires new structures and especially awnings to be rated to withstand 95 mile per hour winds due the alignment betwen the city and a certain mountain pass.

Next we have the most interesting unusable structure I have ever seen. The story on Gizmodo (http://i.gizmodo.com/5155604/this-is-a-grobelastungskrper)tells of a Nazi era construct that was actually a failed test for the construction of a larger building.

On I09.com (http://io9.com/5173160/a-house-made-of-ufos-and-math-puzzles) is a house built for lovers of Science Fiction.

Lastly tonight on Greenopia (http://www.greenopia.com/USA/news/15197/3-20-2009/Seven-of-the-Coolest-Greenest-Recycled-Buildings) is a story on seven amazing recycled green buildings, one that is even within driving distance for me!
